What On Earth Are We Doing With Our Money?

You might already be familiar with Refinery29’s Money Diaries… well, this is the Vestpod version! We’ve put together a few questions to help us understand what women are doing with their money, and they've answered! Always fun, always succinct, and always anonymous.

radiographer. watford. 39. married, no kids.

💭 Financial goals:

Short term (1-5 years): Travel around South America.

Medium term (5-10 years): Buy a house. I live just outside of London, so my rent is much cheaper, allowing me to save for a bigger deposit for a house.

Long term (10 years +): Save more for a comfortable retirement. Hopefully early, as I really don’t want to be working until I'm 68!

🌟 Best buy ever: £400 for my guitar. I was going to buy a cheap one as I have wanted to learn to play, but the store assistant gave me advice - buy the one that you will love to play, otherwise you will get bored playing a cheap one, and be back to spend more money on a better one. This really worked for me, and I love playing this guitar 4 years later.

😳 Worst buy ever: Cheap clothes that last a month.

👀 Things you spend the most money on: Holidays, but travelling is my passion.

😌 Pension: Workplace pension.

🔮 Insurances: Travel.

💸 Salary / Income: £47,000.

💰 Net worth (what you own vs what you owe, or your assets minus your debts): £30,000.

💻 Any side hustles: Not at the moment but looking!

👛 Savings: £3,000 in a help to buy ISA, and I have just opened an investment ISA (thank you Vestpod book!!).

🏠 Home: Not yet.

🔦 Debt: £500 interest free over 6 months for a laptop.

📈 Investing: Workplace pension. Looking into investing, I didn’t know anything about it 2 months ago, now have just opened an investment ISA.

What is money for you? Freedom.

🚀 What is financial independence for you? Not having to spend my life working in a job I don't enjoy because I have no other choice.
