What On Earth Are We Doing With Our Money?

You might already be familiar with Refinery29’s Money Diaries… well, this is the Vestpod version! We’ve put together a few questions to help us understand what women are doing with their money, and they've answered! Always fun, always succinct, and always anonymous.

civil servant. london. 25. single.

💭 Financial goals:

Short term (1-5 years): Save enough to buy a flat.

Medium term (5-10 years): Travel, maybe a kid too.

Long term (10 years +): Start a business of my own, take more control of my life.

🌟 Best buy ever: Pet cat for £100.

😳 Worst buy ever: Diet and work out plans, ugh!

👀 Things you spend the most money on: Rent for sure. I started to cycle, saving on public transport.

😌 Pension: Yes, through work scheme.

🔮 Insurances: Through work: medical, dental, life incl. illness and travel insurance.

💸 Salary / Income: £35k.

💰 Net worth (what you own vs what you owe, or your assets minus your debts): £20,000.

💻 Any side hustles: No.

👛 Savings: Yes! I max out salary sacrifice (i.e. work matches my % of contribution) it's split between my Aviva pension and stocks & shares ISA. I also have Help2Buy ISA in my old school bank. I like to plan ahead and save little by little in sinking funds (for future hols, xmas, occasions) in my Monzo, so I am always prepared for big events and don't need to pay out a huge chunk from salary, which would set me back. I also put aside money into a standard savings account and an emergency/unexpected fixes fund. And I have through work brokerage account where most of my savings are in shares.

🏠 Home: Planning to buy with my boyfriend in up to 2 years time for up to £600,000 in London. (that may be a struggle, but hopefully, we will find our little gem).

🔦 Debt: £15,000 on my Masters.

📈 Investing: So far only with work shares and also pension and stocks & shares ISA. I hope to start investing some money on my own through an easy app.
